My name is Jonathon Jackson, and I'm an award-winning multimedia journalist who set aside reporting and editing to become an award-winning scholar.
I think it's safe to say that most people who excel in both journalism and academia do it the other way around. But because I did it the way I did, it gives me a unique set of skills that few storytellers can match.
How would I describe myself? I'm an expert writer, editor, and qualitative researcher. I've worked in newspapers, radio, television, and online journalism. My goal with this website is to demonstrate how I can create and tell stories in many different formats.
I've been writing since childhood, and I was still in high school when I started working part-time at my hometown daily newspaper, starting me on my journalism journey.
However, my lack of postsecondary education eventually became an issue when I was denied a promotion at a job I really enjoyed, simply because I didn't have a degree. (I know - weird, right?)
Anyway, I am now the proud holder of an Honours BA and an MA in History, both from the University of Waterloo. I also have a graduate certificate in Journalism - New Media from Sheridan College.
I'm an equally proud husband, father, and grandfather - that's my grandson in the photo over there! ➡️
